I know many of you out there watched the Signe Chanel series, and with great admiration for the skilled seamstresses behind Lagerfeld's collections. New York Magazine's fashion blog The Cut has shared with us another peek into the workrooms of the house of Chanel: The making of a Chanel haute couture outfit. You will recognize some familiar faces from Signe Chanel.
And this new video? Blew my mind. I watched it twice because it's even better once you've figured out what's going on. It's 4:31 minutes, check it out:

Wow. so fun!! i can actually almost wrap my mind around it as I come from heirloom sewing and have hand smocked dresses.
Wonderful video. Enjoyed the complete slideshow of the autumn collection of Chanel too (when you click on the second link you gave).
Thanks for sharing the video; it's really wonderful and imagine that this is done in Paris. I understand that Badgley Mishka send their fabric to India to be beaded and then back here to be sewn! There are so few places in the west that can do this anymore.
thanks so much for sharing, that was awesome how they put the sequins on that fabric!
Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for sharing. The beading is fascinating.
holy crap, that bead work! I remember a few years ago at the V&A's Friday Late for the Golden Age of Couture, I spoke with a master sequinner doing a demonstration. And strangely, the tip that always stuck with me is that she said her right hand was always underneath the fabric, as it was the more skilled spot (think about trying to push the needle through a specific spot on the underside with your left!), and the left hand always worked on top (or flip that if you're a southpaw). I noticed in this the ateliers were doing the same.
Très intéressant! I would love to try beadwork one of these days but I don't think I have the patience.
Wow! That was so amazing!

That was unbelievable! Thanks for sharing the video. The beading work was incredible.
WOW!!!! This is truly ART.
sidenote: I thought I heard the lady humming a little tune for a quick second - she must have been "in the zone."
Totally spelled bound...talk about a work of art.
I was spellbound! That was fantastic. I loved watching the draping and the beading. Thanks for sharing this!!!
Deb
Thanks for sharing that - it really was fascinating especially since all of the work is done by hand!!

just kidding!! that was really cool, thanks for sharing!!
OMG - mind blowing is right!
What an amazing clip, I would love to be a fly on te wall in those workrooms for a few months LoL!
What an amazing video, I love the bead work and that has been on my to learn list for a long time. Thanks for posting it :)
AWESOME!!! Thanks so much for sharing!
Wow, that was awesome! I just realized I have not seen a lot of your recent posts. Bloglines must be skipping you for some reason. Hmmmmm, I'll have to look into that because I love your stuff.
