I am so in love the with the July Burda mag! I found about 7 things I want to make. I started with the dress on the cover.
Fabric: I, too, succumbed to the recent Vera Wang Lavender Label fabric sale at Fabric.com. This is the purple poly/spandex jersey. It's a really nice fabric - a medium weight and feels 'slick', great drapiness.
Notes on construction/alterations:
I shortened the hem about 3 inches. Since the dress is so oversized, I think it looks best if it ends above the knee.
Um... I think that's it. I cut my usual 38. Construction is straightforward. I think it took me about a day of work (off and on). My hem is a little wavy, even though I applied fusible interfacing to the SA. I need to work on that.
Conclusion:
One thing I'm not crazy about is the fact that, because of the cowl neck, the wrong side of the neckline is often exposed, so make sure you finish that nicely.
Also, it'll help to add a label, ribbon or some other marking to indicate which is the front and which is the back side of the garment. I wore this today when while I was out shopping and trying on clothes; having a label there was handy to quickly know which side was the back.
The cut outs don't stay perfectly in place on your shoulders, they kind of slide this way and that while you're wearing the dress, which takes some getting used to.
This fabric won't wrinkle so it'll be great for summer travel.

I have been lovin' the July Burda as well. I have already made two things from that issue and have at least two more planned. I know a lot of people don't love this issue but it is exactly what I needed. Besides, I need to get my summer sewing out of my system because the fall styles are already starting to emerge...YIKES!

And not only did I buy the first big shipment of Vera Wang fabrics but I had the nerve to go back and get more of the white cotton pique! I still have my eye on a few more pieces...sick, right! *LOL*

It looks fantastic on you. Interesting how in the model shot, she has the large necklace on--kind of conceals that you can see the wrong side of the neckline because of the drape.

I too am looking at making this. Thanks for the comment about the facing showing. Can you add lingerie straps to keep it from shifting around so much? I hate it when they don't stay put so now I might not make it based on your experience. It turned out really cute on you!!!

I was disappointed with July Burda. Yet your dress is the second one I have seen made up and it is truly starting to grown on me.
