I now have a 3rd hand

I can't believe I've gone this long without a ham holder.

These things aren't easy to find, either. Well, I did find a wooden ham holder at my local fabric shop - with a $25 price tag. Clotilde also sells a wood one for $25. I found one online source selling the June Tailor plastic ham holder - SHC Fabrics has it for $17.

I was determined to get a better deal. Eventually I found my way to Mary Jo's Cloth Store where they sell a wooden ham holder for 12 bucks! I'd never heard of this online store, and navigating around the site is annoying, but I can report that my order was processed quickly, so I am pleased and I'll gladly recommend the site to all of you still 2-handed seamstresses out there.

I just bought a ham holder that looks just like yours at the sewing expo earlier this month. I thought it was too big for my ham! But looking at your pictures, I think it will work.

Faye - I thought the same thing too! But all the ham holders that I've seen have been this size, so I figure it must be right...

This is a very usefull tool. I've had a ham holder for many years, and use it a lot.

I have had my ham for over 30 years and I have yet to obtain a holder because I've balked at the price of them. This is a great price. Thanks.

Thank you for sharing your source. I have been refusing to pay the price (silly considering how much I use the ham), but I will get myself one now! BTW, about your curved yoke blouse: if you are afraid it might have a maternity effect on you, belt it. I think it would look fabulous.

I've been craving a ham holder but they're expensive even in the garment district. I'll have to check this out.

OK, I looked at ham holders for years and never bought one becasue they were too expensive. But !!! I got a football 'T' (holds the football during kickoffs) for $5.99 at a sporting goods discount store (Big 5) and it is perfect for holding my ham. It is plastic but the heat of the iron does not get near it. It is bright orange, and that is the worst thing about it. Not as elegant as the wood holders, but for the price I will sacrifice the style.

That does sound like a good price. Maybe a holder will help me use the ham more!

It's funny you wrote about this. They had a clapper at the quilt store I went to today by them. It was $21 and I figured I would come home, check out your source, and see what I could find!

Thanks for the tip. I ordered one from that source thanks to you. Too bad you don't get a commission :O)

A ham holder! I didn't even know such a thing existed! And why wouldn't it? One of those things you never knew you needed until you have one. Thanks for the cheap tip, too!
