Deepika, the founder of Pattern Review (PR) arranged this meetup after she learned she would be in Seattle for a few days. Once word got out, over 30 women made themselves available to spend a whole day talking about sewing and shopping for fabric.
10 am Nancy's Sewing Basket
We started off at Nancy's, undoubtedly the favorite fabric store of local apparel seamstresses.
Jacque Goldsmith gave a presentation in which she encouraged us to participate in contests. She showed us a couple of prize-winning outfits that she made, including a woman's skirt suit made entirely from a recycled man's suit that won a grand prize in an ASG contest.
This is part of the group. We couldn't tear the others away from fabric shopping.
Me, Kirsten, and Vivienne. I knew Kirsten from a sewing group she coordinated a few years ago, so I was thrilled to reconnect with her. Vivienne came from Vancouver BC and it was great to finally put a face to a name I've chatted with online for some time.
Noon: Lunch at Julia's
Julia's was easily able to accommodate our large group for lunch.
2 pm Textile Studio
I really enjoyed our behind-the-scenes look at Textile Studio. It's an online business with no storefront, so being there felt like we had made it in to a secret loft party. Mini-cupcakes and coffee were the fuel we needed for shopping till we dropped.
Marsha, the owner, is awesome. She didn't seem too bothered by this huge group of women pawing through her fabrics, and she didn't even get upset when about 20 bolts of fabric that were leaning on the wall collapsed to the floor. The poor woman had some serious cleaning up to do when we left. Thanks for opening up your studio to us, Marsha!
3:30pm Stitches
Me, Deepika, and Nichole. Nichole and I got to know each other intimately a few years ago when we made duct tape doubles along with Kirsten. Very happy to reconnect with her again too.
I bought two cuts of fabric from Textile Studio, but it's dark out now and my pictures don't look great. One is a wool jersey that I think I'll be making very soon into another dress like this. The other is a black rayon/lycra woven, perfect for a basic black skirt or pants.

I would have enjoyed meeting Marsha in person and seeing all her fabrics up close, I bet her place is amazing. It looks like everyone had a great time, successful event! Thanks for posting pics :)

Wow! This looks like a lot of fun! I'm sad I didn't check out some of these shops when I was living in Seattle. I'll have to do that when I come back for visits.

Ohhhhh, ahhhhh, boy do I wish I could have been at Textile Studio with you! Glad that you had a wonderful time and were able to reconnect with some sewists from your "past"!
