Can't sew your own knock-offs? Patricia Field has got you covered.

So I followed a few fashion blog links this morning and ended up at the Patricia Field website.

Check it - it's a knock-off of the vintage Emma Domb dress I was coveting from the SATC movie. But frankly, for $280, I'm not reaching for my credit card quite yet.

You know what really drives me crazy though? I don't see the fiber content listed anywhere. Is it silk? Polyester? Rayon? Who knows.

*******

In other news... I've been in a sewing rut lately, but a coffee date with a new sewing friend this weekend inspired me to work a May 2008 BWOF dress. It's a definite winner, and I'll take some pictures and post very soon.

Well that picture doesn't exactly sell it for $280 either. Have you found a pattern yet?? *sends sewing mojo vibes*

woah! that dress is freaky, that model is freaky, and the combination is scary. It's too bad things like this exist especially when the original is so beautiful... I can't wait to see your newly sewn dress!!!

The model makes the dress look so cheap, doesn't she? SJP made it look so elegant in the movie!

Ok. Sigh. The dress is cute. But, the way this whole thing is styled makes me think of hookers in Vietnam. Was it THAT short in the movie?

Sister. I just went and looked at the site. I'm totally skeeved out.

Have to agree that the modeling of that dress leaves much to be desired.

Can't wait to see the new dress. I have a few things cut out that I need to start sewing.

Much cuter on SJP and will be on you too. I should think this would be fairly easy to reproduce, right?

seriously Christina, this model did that dress no justice, lol
I believe on you, it will look much better!

That is one trashy website/product line.

Its actually sold out on the site??? They did it no justice. Too short and cheap looking knit fabric. I will love to see how you recreate it.

I think the neckline is what adds to the halloweenish feel to this version of the dress (styling aside, of course). The dress SJP wore is completely flat at the neckline which I think works better with that sleeve and the one posted here has a cowl/boat neck thing going on which added with the sleeves makes the whole thing over the top.

I agree. When I first saw this I thought "not boutique or chic couture enough for me". The fabric looks cheap. The neckline isn't tailored enough either. I think you could do alot better yourself.

I agree that it looks much better in the original version and on SJP. Besides I am positive you would do a fantastic job creating your own knock off. I know what you mean about no mojo ( no sewing or blogging )!!! I was in good company then.

Can't wait to see the latest BWOF creation.

This dress looks like it would ride up and your bum would be showing all the time. What's up with the black lipstick?

Oh, that is so cute, but on me, it would be a total fashion don't!

The dress SJP wore doesn't look like a knit, which when translated with the high, side ponytail and dark lipstick doesn't communicate the, ah, same vibe. I would think that perhaps a stretch sateen or gabardine would interpret the look better and look less like you wear the dress for hire, you know what I mean? Or, you could go the House of Fields route and use spandex lame' ;-P

Looking forward to your version and the one worn by SJP doesn't look knit.

I totally agree: the model, her make-up, the length of the dress and the fabric used for the actual dress part is very sub-standard. The knock off could have mimicked the length and dress fabric a lot better. It's rather cheap looking. Black make-up? The Domb dress was elegant. Can't wait to see your copy. So glad I found your site! Thanks for sharing.

The knock-off does look very cheap. I just found this dress on the HSN(home shopping) website for $129.90(sort of odd since its $280 on the pf site) and it says it's silk! It also looks much more classier than on the Pat Field website. She is going to be on the HSN channel on 9/23/08 showing her SATC line.
