Short but sweet

I'm back! My trip this weekend took me to the Washington DC area. I'm so lucky, the way everything was timed allowed me to visit with Cidell on Monday morning! And it was her birthday, no less. She picked me up and naturally we headed to the infamous G Street.

See that man at the front door? His job is to make sure no customers enter the store before 10 am.

G Street is fab, although I spent so much time in the $2.97/yard area that I didn't get to fully inpsect the entire store.

Check out Cidell's post too, we about died when we saw bolts of Burberry fabric identical to what we just purchased from Mike's (for a similar price, thank goodness!). This icing on the cake is that everything in the store was 25% off. In addition to a few cuts of fabric, I scored a Snap Setter that Stacy recommended a while back.

Today is also my mom's birthday. This is a set of napkins I made for her; I confirmed that she received them so it's okay to post a pic now. They are linen with various cotton print borders. I followed the Molly's Handmade Napkins tutorial on the Purl Bee blog. You get the hang of how to deal with the corners after the first napkin. It's a fun and easy project, great for someone who has everything, plus cloth napkins are making a comeback thanks to the whole 'green' movement.

I visited G Street (Rockville, MD) and fell in love with the place! I must find a reason to go back. I should have had a guide like Cidell. Somehow, I missed the $2.97 table!

I've heard so much about G-street fabrics, but have never seen pictures..... it's HUGE! Now I've got to find a reason to go to DC so I can visit that store. Glad to hear you had a fun time (and picked up some fun goodies)

BTW, I love the napkins!

Ah lucky you, seeing Miss Cidell twice in the last month! GStreet is amazing isn't it? And I totally understand about the $2.97 area, I was like that the first time I went there too! Who am I kidding, I was amazed by it on subsequent visits also!!!! Glad you had a good time.

I live in the DC area and find the Rockville and Falls Church G-Streets great. Their staff, especially in the Designer section, sew many of their own clothing and really are great helping you choose fabrics and trims for any project. I hear the store in Potomac Mills, a little south of the city on I-95 is closing. I also agree the $2.97 table is my first stop! So glad you had fun .

Oooooh I love me some G STREET!!!! Always try to hit it up when I'm down in Rockville. I've gotten so many DEALS from their clearance section and rare fabrics that you just can't find other places around here.

Too bad the French restaurant next door went downhill. . .

Oh, you're so lucky! Funny, I took out my pile of napkins I started over Christmas to finally finish them so I could use them! Yay for going green!

Wow! I lived in DC for almost 7 years and had no idea this place even existed! I'm sure I'll make it back there again soon so I'll definitely add it to my list of places to check out.

A great picture of the two of you. I love the napkins. I will have to look at the tutorial you posted. I only use cloth napkins and have for years not just to be green, but I hate paper napkins.

Glad you had such a great time. Agree stripes are definitely a challenge. I've managed to align the stripes on my dress and will post pics soon.

Christina,
I love the vintage look. Were the fabrics "new" with vintage prints or truly old vintage fabrics? And where is the linen from? That stone color is absolutely perfect. Must copy the napkins....
thanks
cindy

Hi Cindy! I got all the fabric for the napkins at my local fabric store (Nancy's Sewing Basket). So they are new fabrics with vintage style prints. But there are a lot of quilting cottons (that's what these are) out there now with retro prints.
