Given my love for Burda magazine, I'm surprised it took me this long to try a Burdastyle pattern. I had a hankering to use one of the knits I recently acquired, so I decided to try out the Lydia tee. It's a free download that you print at home. Can't beat that!
Fabric
B&W stripe cotton jersey from Michael Levine in LA.
Notes on construction/alterations
There are neckline facing pattern pieces for this top but I didn't bother to trace them. Why would you want a facing on your t-shirt?? Instead I used a narrow strip of fashion fabric to finish the neckline, as described in the Aug/Sept 2006 issue of Threads (#126), "Expert Techniques for Finishing Stretch Knits."
Conclusion
Easy, comfy, pretty much what I was expecting. I'll use this again, but if I want a more fitted t-shirt (the armscye in particular), I'll use BWOF 2-2005-114 which is what I used to make my mod neckband tee.
I'm looking forward to trying more from Burdastyle, including:
- the Elisabeth Coat designed by the very talented Geri
- the very popular JJ blouse
- the supercute Sabrina dress

Cute tops, I like your stamp design.
Wow, you sure are busy these days! Nice top!

Nice top, it looks comfy. I wish I was more confident sewing with knits. I can't explain why this fabric gives me goosebumps (which is not the case of fly front, go try it ;o)
Nice top! I'm hooked on basics AND knits right now! LOL
Great looking top. Thanks for reminding me about Burda Style.
Very cute top! I love how you plaid with the stripes
Very cute top!
Wow I can't wait to see your version! You cannot imagine how great I find it that you like it!
Great fit, the fabric looks really nice too. What jeans are those? I really like the wash.
Leslie - I got the jeans at the H&M in Walnut Creek! In January I think.
Your top looks very nice! I have had my eye on the Sabrina dress since it came out, it looks like a fab dress and I hope to make one up for summer.
I love your new top! Those stripes are fabulous (and I love how you used it around the neckline).
This is really cute, Christina! :)
Super cute! Yeah, why bother with a facing when you can just use a bias strip! Anyways, I should definitely check out those patterns.. the flair of Burda without the hassle of tracing!
Gorgeous T, well done! I must try one of the Burdastyle models too!
Lovely T.
